7 years ago we were given this cabin.
The catch was we had to go to Wyoming and take it down.
So on a HOT July day we made the journey and deconstructed this amazing little building that had weathered over 150 years in the same spot. It was being used as a chicken coop but at one time I’m sure it was home to a settler’s family. I’ve spent much time thinking about this little family and what they went through in that crazy climate that goes from one extreme to another. The births and deaths and life experiences that have happened within these four walls. If they could talk, oh the stories they could tell!
Luckily some amazing family members went with us to help…I’ll be honest with you, I’m not sure just how much help I actually was! I’m scared of heights and spiders and did I mention it was really HOT? I hate the heat, it makes me onry and sick and I’m no darn good in it.
When we brought it home it went straight under a tarp behind the lilacs and was ignored for 7 years. In that 7 years it went from being a theater room, to a game room, to a man cave and then, finally, my art studio.
Only now it isn’t just going to be an art studio. It will be my magical little art cabin where I can hold amazing classes full of art and soul and all things good. A meeting place to gather up my kindreds and create goodness. The spot where my girls can sew and paint and make stuff without any worries about messes or paint on the floor.
My husband has worked and worked and worked some more on it. It truly is a labor of love from him to me. My sister said, “not just any man would do that you know.” True story. My husband isn’t an emotional man and him building me things is his love language. He must love me a lot because this cabin…whew!
From the roof to the windows to the chinking and loft…everything has been far more work than we ever anticipated!
Wow it is awesome though. AWESOME!
We are getting close to being done with the outside. The inside will be just as much work.
At the end, though, it will be full of love.magic.twinklelights.music.creativeness.healing.art.soul.friendship.and did I mention love? I can’t wait to get to share it with you!!
