Oh it’s here! My favorite month of the year!
November is the month where the beautiful fall days turn into the cold winter mornings. It seems as though the whole garden is going to sleep. I love watching the change here on our farm. This little song describes it all in a most delicious way…can’t you just picture it all in your mind?
It is also a month where memories seem to be most vivid for me.
I come from a family of 7 but there were 11 years difference between me and my sister next to me. Most of my siblings were on with their grown up lives before I even realized they were there. I loved the Holidays when I got to see all of them and my nieces and nephews. My oldest niece was only 3 years behind me, and after a few years of extreme jealousy towards her, I loved being an aunt. I have sweet memories of those times but mostly they are just feelings after all these years. But the feelings are warm and filled with love for them. My oldest brother was gone at 40, it’s been 23 years since he was taken, and I cherish those pictures of him I hold in my heart. Always a big hug and a beautiful smile. I can still remember those hugs…oh the simple gifts of life. So come November my heart seems to overfill with all the feels.
One of my other favorite memories from my high school years are Sunday breakfasts. My dad was a long haul truck driver so he was gone a lot. It seems like he was home on Sunday mornings most of the time. My older brother also lived with us and he was usually home as well. I remember quite a few Sundays gathered around the kitchen bar eating some yummy thing my mom made but the thing I remember most is that those breakfasts lasted for a long time. We talked and spent time together and it’s crazy how much I really loved that. It’s one of those happy times you remember that at the time you didn’t realize how important they were.
So that brings me to this #fywhhyggeweekends. Obviously Hygge is about mindfulness, right? We won’t remember all of the details of every little thing that makes our heart happy but we will remember the feelings involved. How about this weekend we concentrate a little more on creating the feelings. Spend more time being mindful of the world around us, as well as the people we love. Give yourself the gift of slowing down and taking it all in.
A common thread I find throughout most of my happy heart memories is food…my family loved to eat and food was a love language in our home for sure! I love breakfast…big hearty, really bad for you, breakfasts. My husband has a wonky schedule, and is off during the week a lot, so we go on breakfast dates more than anything else. We have a few favorite local diners that we love. The funny thing is, I don’t really like to cook breakfast because I am not a morning person! I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to so many yummy recipes and I haven’t tried hardly any, if I do it’s breakfast for dinner. Lots of them are just perfect for this time of year. If you aren’t a big breakfast person but love just a good greek yogurt with homemade granola this is one of my favorite recipes. I personally like the apple pie spice the best but either one tastes like a little bit of fall in your mouth! Granola with almond milk is a go-to for me.
Don’t get me wrong…I love all the meals and comfort food makes me happy. That’s why this weekend we will be having these (so good in the crockpot) & this (I totally use frozen pie crust.)Two of my family’s favorites!
I’m hoping to fit in at least one of these movies because they are my go to movies this time of year. 1. The Family Stone 2. Love Actually or 3. Stepmom. Can I tell you a secret and you won’t hate me? I don’t love sappy Christmas movies. The Hallmark Channel is not my gig. I just can’t do it. Don’t throw things at me I know that is not a popular sentiment.
Are you as addicted to pretty houses as I am? I know mine will never look like any of them because my husband refuses to stop being practical instead of aesthetic and constantly puts things where I am trying to keep things pretty. He just can’t understand why the fridge top needs to look nice. This blog is one of my favorite dream house blogs…mostly because of the farm and the sheep but I would definitely take the house fully decorated. 😉 This farm makes me drool a little and the woman who owns it is a sweet heart. I’ll just give you those two because you can get pretty lost in either one of them.
I am still kind of stuck doing not much this weekend but the husband is working on our new barn that is coming along slowly. I am dying to get outside and put my plants to bed and get ready for winter. So if I can’t do anything I’l just spend some time pinning all the things I want to do and can’t. Hope you are spending this weekend doing something good. Remember to find joy in the simple things and bring more hygge into your life! We’d love for you to join us on Instagram and share your hygge! #fywhhyggeweekends
