I do not know my biological father and it’s always felt like I was missing a piece of the puzzle, ya know?
I did have a father who raised me but I never quite fit in his family.
They were kind and always treated me with love but I just didn’t fit.
A few years ago I followed the little bit of information I had about my birth father on a family history sheet and found out that some of my people come from Denmark. I read about the Danish people and what I read kind of felt like me. The funny thing is just finding out where my ancestors were from filled a little bit of that need to belong somewhere.

I really wanted a picture of my grandmother and through the magic of FB I was able to steal one off of someone’s page. I know, creeper, but it hangs in my hallway and I look like her. I also look like the other grandmothers I have been able to find. The internet has it’s magical parts, doesn’t it?
I heard the Danish term Hygge, pronounced hue-guh, a little while back and it just hit home with me. It spoke right directly to my heart. It’s not something you buy, it’s learning how to create a life full of beauty, charm, coziness, mindfulness…all of the good Danish Stuff that this part way Danish girl loves!
My word of the year is Mindfulness. I really want to try my hardest to appreciate the moments and to create Hygge in my life and the lives of my beloveds. I thought it would be so fun to take a day each week and gift a Hygge post to you. Ways to invite more of it into our lives. What do you think?
To get us started I would like to pass on one of my favorite comfort food recipes. (Any way of life that includes comfort food is a winner in my book.) It’s my Aunt Evelyn’s homemade mac n’ cheese and it’s delicious. When we first got married I made it a lot because it was cheap to make. My husband would get excited at work because it was mac n’ cheese night and everyone thought it was code for sex. That’s how good this stuff is. 😉
What is your favorite comfort food? What foods bring a feeling of home and peace to you? I would love to hear!!
