When I knew what this adventure of mine was going to be about, I knew that it had to have a special name. It’s not just a business like Wendy’s or Walmart. It’s a heart centered space where I can facilitate while women discover things that help them live a more authentic life. I put so many combinations together and they never fully embraced what I wanted to achieve. I wanted the name to say something. I wanted the wild in your heart to beat a little faster when you heard what I was offering you.
I saw this poem by Atticus one day on Pinterest. I love the book, To Kill a Mockingbird. (My dog’s name is Harper Lee.) When I saw these words my mind went straight to Atticus, the father. The father who embodies all I think a father should be. The father who allowed Scout to be wild and loved her for it. My Atticus didn’t write it, but a poet did, and I loved it just the same. It seemed like a sign.
I already had the words FIND, WILD, HEART, floating around and trying to come together. I knew that I wanted to create an environment where women would reach in and grab ahold of that wildness within them and nurture and grow it. Through art, soul work, and being in the presence of each other without a cardboard cut-out in front of them. A space where you can walk through the gate and feel this is where there are no expectations, no demands, no preconceived notions of who you should be. Just a place to be YOU. Powerful, untethered, YOU.
Today is International Women’s Day. I have seen so many beautiful tributes to the strong, the smart, the women who have achieved greatness in the eyes of the world. I have seen verses about who we want to be, and so many great words used to describe what we really mean to the people around us. I am not going to talk politics or religion or feminism even. But I will say this…women are in a place right now in this world where I don’t think we can ever go back. It will be forward from now on. I am watching wise crones and young mothers grabbing onto their wildness and wearing it as a badge of honor. It is spectacular in so many ways. SPECTACULAR!
I just want to say to all of you, thank you. Thank you for Finding Your Wild Heart and for not being afraid to show it to everyone with a twinkle of pride in your eyes.
